Community Guidelines

Welcome to The Box Gathering community — a space for boxing coaches exploring and developing their practice through the constraints-led approach.

We’re glad you’re here. This community works best when everyone feels safe to share, question and learn without judgement. These guidelines exist to protect that environment, not to police it. We ask that you read them before posting.

Who This Community Is For

The Box Gathering forum is for boxing coaches aged 18 and over. Whether you’re new to the constraints-led approach or have been applying it for years, you belong here. We’re all at different stages of the same journey.

Users aged 16-17 may participate with verifiable written consent from a parent or legal guardian. Contact us to arrange this.

What We’re About

This is a professional learning community. The conversations here should reflect that — thoughtful, honest, and grounded in a genuine desire to improve coaching practice. Disagreement is welcome and often valuable. Disrespect is not.

The Ground Rules

Be respectful

Treat every member as a fellow professional. Robust debate about ideas is encouraged — personal attacks, dismissiveness or condescension are not. Challenge the idea, not the person.

Share generously

This community grows through shared experience. Post your sessions, your questions, your failures as well as your successes. The more openly coaches share their practice, the more everyone benefits.

Stay on topic

Keep discussions relevant to boxing coaching and the constraints-led approach. Off-topic posts may be moved to a more appropriate category by the moderation team.

No self-promotion or spam

Sharing relevant resources, tools or content is welcome when it adds genuine value to a discussion. Unsolicited promotion of products, services or other communities is not. If you’re unsure whether something counts as spam, ask a moderator first.

Protect confidentiality

When sharing session experiences or coaching scenarios, be mindful of the privacy of the athletes and clubs involved. Do not share identifying information about third parties without their consent.

No illegal content

Do not post, share or link to content that is illegal under UK law. This includes but is not limited to: content that incites hatred, harassment or violence; content that exploits or endangers children; fraudulent or misleading content. Such posts will be removed immediately and reported to the relevant authorities where required.

One account per person

Each member should have one account. Duplicate accounts will be removed.

Content Standards

Topics and posts should be written in good faith and with care. Before posting, ask yourself:

  • Does this add value to the conversation?
  • Would I be comfortable saying this to someone’s face?
  • Am I sharing this to help others or just to vent?

Posts that are abusive, deliberately misleading, or posted in bad faith will be removed.

Improve the Discussion

Help us make this a great place for discussion by always adding something positive to the conversation, however small. If you’re not sure your post adds to the conversation, think over what you want to say and try again later.

One way to improve the discussion is by discovering conversations that are already happening. Spend time browsing topics before replying or starting your own, and you’ll have a better chance of meeting others who share your interests.

When You Disagree

You may wish to respond by disagreeing. That’s fine. But remember to criticize ideas, not people. Please avoid:

  • Name-calling
  • Ad hominem attacks
  • Responding to a post’s tone instead of its actual content
  • Knee-jerk contradiction

Instead, provide thoughtful insights that improve the conversation.

Using the Forum Effectively

Keep It Tidy

Make the effort to put things in the right place, so that we can spend more time discussing and less cleaning up:

  • Start topics in the right category — read the category descriptions before posting
  • Don’t cross-post — don’t post the same thing in multiple topics
  • Don’t post no-content replies — if you just want to agree, use the Like button
  • Don’t divert topics — if you want to discuss something different, start a new topic or use Reply as a Linked Topic
  • Don’t sign your posts — your profile information is attached to every post

Post Only Your Own Stuff

You may not post anything digital that belongs to someone else without permission. You may not post descriptions of, links to, or methods for stealing someone’s intellectual property (software, video, audio, images), or for breaking any other law.

Use Community Tools

Discourse provides tools that enable the community to collectively identify the best (and worst) contributions: bookmarks, likes, flags, replies, edits, watching, muting and so forth. Use these tools to improve your own experience, and everyone else’s, too.

Moderation

The Box Gathering team moderates this community. We aim to be fair, consistent and transparent.

Minor violations (off-topic posts, minor tone issues) will result in a warning and/or the post being edited or moved.

Serious violations (abuse, harassment, illegal content, repeated rule-breaking) will result in immediate suspension or permanent removal from the community without warning.

We reserve the right to remove any content or account that we believe undermines the safety or quality of this community, even if it does not explicitly breach a specific rule listed here.

Moderation decisions are final. If you believe a decision has been made in error, contact us via our website.

If You See a Problem, Flag It

Moderators have special authority; they are responsible for this forum. But so are you. With your help, moderators can be community facilitators, not just janitors or police.

When you see bad behavior, don’t reply. Replying encourages bad behavior by acknowledging it, consumes your energy, and wastes everyone’s time. Just flag it. If enough flags accrue, action will be taken, either automatically or by moderator intervention.

Reporting

If you see something that breaches these guidelines, please use the flag button on the post rather than responding publicly. We review all flags and will act promptly.

For urgent concerns, particularly anything involving illegal content, contact the moderators directly.

Your Responsibility Under UK Law

By participating in this community you agree to comply with applicable UK law, including the Online Safety Act 2023. The Box Gathering operates as a regulated user-to-user service and takes its legal obligations seriously. Content that is illegal under UK law will be removed and, where required, reported to the relevant authorities.

Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these guidelines from time to time. Significant changes will be announced in the Announcements category. Continued participation in the community following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised guidelines.

Questions?

If you’re unsure about anything, ask. Post in The Corner or contact the moderators.
